We started planting grapevines on the property in 2012, and each season have continued to add to that original planting. We currently have around 4 acres planted, with the intention of adding more acreage in the next few seasons.
Grape growing and winemaking are combinations of art and science that center around time-tested farming and winemaking practices. Being located in southeastern Pennsylvania, we are considered a cool-climate growing region. Pennsylvania has similar growing degree days and weather patterns comparable to areas of France, with slightly more rain at times and the potential to produce fruit that is bold, balanced, and ripe. We are a relatively young grape-growing and winemaking region in the grand scheme of history, but we are starting to show the potential this region is capable of producing. From our own experiences in our vineyard, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot are constant standouts for reds, and Chardonnay for whites. In ideal seasons, the quality is a combination of old-world European style with the boldness of new-world levels of ripeness.
This vineyard site is unique because the slope is majority south-facing, which maximizes vine exposure to sunlight. Heat interception helps with grape ripening along with winter survival, along with moderate soil fertility. Vineyard row orientation is NE to SW, circa 40 degrees to E or true N–S (maximizes photosynthesis).
Our goal is to produce world-class PA-grown grapes and wine and show Pennsylvania has the ability to be a premium grape-growing and winemaking region.
